Introducing Dr. Hein Snyman – Veterinary Pathologist, CWHC BC
The BC node of the CWHC would like to introduce Veterinary Pathologist, Dr. Hein Snyman!
Hein is a Veterinary Pathologist with the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture’s AAVLD accredited Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. He originally joined the ministry in December 2013 and has a strong interest in comparative pathology with his primary responsibility being to diagnose diseases in fish, reptiles, amphibians and other aquatic animals.
Hein was born in South Africa and completed his BVSc (Bachelor of Veterinary Science) degree from the University of Pretoria in 2008. After spending some time in private practice in South Africa, as an exotics, zoo and wildlife veterinarian, and armed with a deep rooted interest in veterinary pathology he joined the Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph as a graduate student. He completed his doctoral degree (DVSc) in Anatomic Pathology in November 2013 and achieved Diplomate status of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) in September 2013. Hein enjoys all creatures big and small but has developed a special love for anything that is scaly, slithery and slimy and is therefore especially interested in expanding his knowledge of the diseases affecting the native fishes, amphibians and reptiles of British Columbia and the rest of Canada.
